A bug hunt is great because it allows little learners the opportunity to explore nature anywhere outside and creates a foundation for science skills. A simple bug hunt is also great way to learn together. In addition to searching for bugs why not create a way for your child to look at them close up for a bit with the “Bug Hotel.” To make a Bug Hotel cut open the side of a juice bottle and put in items that bugs are used to climbing on, such as grass, a pinecone, leaves, etc.. Tape up the hole with a screen. When your child finds a bug he or she can scoop it up through the top of the bottle.
Additionally, nighttime bugs are always fun to look for too but much harder to find. This is why I love the Magic Firefly Bottle. Put your Magic Firefly bottle on the ground or a table and watch what happens!
